With a nod to the iconic Italian Arco lamp, the Outer Borough Lamp embraces a Brooklyn vernacular material palette of cast concrete and steam-bent wood. The OBL’s sculpted form follows its function, with a low center of gravity and geometric alliance with the lamp’s wooden arm. The steam-bent wooden arm triumphantly reaches up and outward from its heavy concrete base like a curving Vierendeel truss to hold any pendant light, even your favorite pendant light, with no ceiling required.
The Designers
The Outer Borough Lamp is a new modular, floor-lamp hand-crafted in Brooklyn, New York by a dentist and an architect. This modern arc lamp reimagines the classic Italian Arco masterpiece with a vernacular Brooklyn material palette of cast concrete and steam-bent wood. The form of the OBL follows its function with the engineered low center of gravity in its geometric base and the double-leaf wooden arm structured like a curving Vierendeel truss. The modern design of the OBL is perfect for enthusiasts and interior designers seeking a sustainable artisan-quality statement piece that celebrates the beauty of authentic materials with minimalist architectural form.
